Halloween is just around the corner, and it's the perfect time to get creative and craft some spooktacular DIY costumes for your little ones. Not only will you save money, but you'll also have a great time making memories together. In this post, we've rounded up some easy and imaginative DIY Halloween costume ideas that will make your child the star of trick or treating!
š» Ghost
One of the easiest costumes to make!
All you need is an old white bedsheet and some scissors. Cut out holes for eyes and if you want to add a distressed look, cut the bottom of the outfit into jagged strips. Cut the length of the sheet so it isn't a trip hazard and let your little ghost roam.
š§» Mummy
Wrap your child in strips of white cloth (gauze or a torn bedsheet) and add a touch of makeup for a spooky effect.
Mummies are always a hit!
š Pumpkin
Use orange T-shirt, jumper or a onesie and paint or glue black felt in the style of a pumpkin face on the front of your chosen garment. Alternatively, if you're feeling artistic, you can leave the garment plain and paint a pumpkin on your face instead!
Add a green hat or headband for the stem to complete the look.
šAnimal
Transform your child into their favourite animal by sewing or gluing felt patches onto a plain onesie or T-shirt. Add ears, a tail, and some face paint to finish.
The possibilities are endless!
š Scarecrow
Dress your child in overalls or jeans and a flannel shirt, then add some straw sticking out from cuffs and pockets.
Paint on a nose and cheeky freckles to complete the look.
š¤ Robot
Get creative with cardboard boxes - either cover in tin foil or paint silver/grey for the body.
Use things around for example milk carton lids, egg boxes and string to create buttons and cables.
š Skeleton
Decorate an all black outfit with white fabric paint to create bones. Alternatively, cut out white fabric in the shape of your bones and glue them onto your outfit.
Add a skull mask or face paint to finalise the skeleton look.
š© Frankenstein's Monster
Start simple with a T-shirt and a pair of trousers. Use old fabric or felt to cut out patches and sew or glue them onto the clothing. Use face paint for a full face look or use green eyeshadow to highlight details.
Use face paint or eyeliner to draw on neck bolts.
š§āāļø Zombie
Take old clothing and use scissors to distress the fabric, creating jagged edges, holes and tears.
Use white face paint or foundation to create a pale complexion. Add dark circles around the eyes and use eyeliner or lipstick to create scars and wounds.
Remember to involve your child in the costume making process. They'll love the creativity and bonding time, and you'll both enjoy the satisfaction of seeing your homemade masterpiece come to life on Halloween night. Happy crafting and happy Halloween! šØš
